Fuel for Your Fire!

While we hope that our music brings you inspiration, the best gift we could ever give is access to the influences that have shaped us, supported us, and literally saved us. No matter what embers of purpose and desire are simmering inside you, this list is the fuel that can ignite your passion and light up your life!  Our favorite book says that the truth will set you free...but that only works if you KNOW the truth! Seek it out and see where the calling leads!

Books

Saturate by Jeff Vanderstelt
Do you ever feel like there's a disconnect between how everyday life looks vs Sunday mornings at church? Maybe you love 6 days of your week and dread the Sunday routine. Maybe you gave up on it altogether. Maybe you love it and wish there was a way to incorporate Jesus into every other day of the week. No matter what place you're in this book will fire you up about living out the Great Commission to make disciples.

Spiritual Slavery to Spiritual Sonship by Jack Frost
This book will blow your mind about your relationship with God and people. Both of us have read this book and Sarah even leads a recurring life group for ladies based on it. After the Bible, this is at the very top of our recommendations!

Real Artists Don't Starve by Jeff Goins
This is a brand new book and was sent to us by a good friend. WOW is it amazing!! Everybody (not just "artists") need to read this book - it's brain surgery for your dreams and goals! In our musical endeavors there's already been wrong thinking that we held and didn't even know it until we read this book. This one's a game changer!!

48 Days to the Work You Love by Dan Miller
If you aren't 100% passionate and excited about what you do every day then put everything else down and read this RIGHT NOW! This challenged us to reconsider how we determine what to spend our time and talents on. What if we stopped looking for the right career and started defining what characteristics are important in our lives? Only then can we figure out what career paths might work with what we want out of life. We're still working through the impacts of this book but let's just say it has changed our trajectory significantly!

Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend
None of us live in a vacuum (no matter how much we want to sometimes) and this book is all about letting in the good and keeping out the bad. We ALL have relationships and need to know how to care for them. Not everyone should have the same level of access to your life and you must learn how to protect your heart.

Wild at Heart by John Eldredge
Do you like epic movies and adventures? The great outdoors? A good romance? What about just knowing that there's more to life than a 9-to-5 or running the house? Maybe you're at a place where there's no more emotion or passion and you wonder why you get up every morning. This one's for you. While the book is geared towards men, both Doug and Sarah have read this and have been blessed by it. It's better than Netflix, we promise!

His Needs Her Needs by Willard F. Harley Jr.
Are you married? Engaged? Just stop what you're doing right now and go read this book. Do it as a couple and talk through it candidly. If you can, find yourselves a Dynamic Marriage course nearby too so that you can get even more out of it! Both of us have read this book multiple times and have recently started facilitating courses. Think you've got a great marriage already? - We DARE you to read this and apply it!

The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman
This book is great for couples and there's several spin-offs for parents, singles, etc. It's a great read for anyone but especially if your message of love isn't getting through to someone (or maybe you aren't getting the love you desire). For us, this book saved our marriage before it even started. We knew from day one what the other one needed. Following through is something different entirely, but this will give you the tools and tips to finding out how your friends, family, or spouse need to be loved.

Music

Who do we support musically? We love lots of artists but there's a select few we'd clear our calendars for AND can also play on shuffle at home without fear of our young son hearing something inappropriate. Here's our short list...

Ted Yoder - You won't find a more genuine artist and his extensive collection of cover tunes and original compositions performed on hammered dulcimer will improve even your worst days. If he releases new music or performs live anywhere in our area we're on it asap!!

NEEDTOBREATHE - This southern rock group is a staple on both our daily playlists and will cut right to your heart while fueling your passions. We hope to cover a few of their works someday!

soulbreather - A husband/wife duo with accomplishments in CCM that are too extensive to list here. If you crave meaningful lyrics and a musical landscape that focuses on worship without the cookie-cutter feel of most CCM tunes check this group out!

Simon Boyar Music - A recent discovery on social media, this established percussionist clicked right away with both of us! He's creatively bridging the gap between marimba and pop culture and rocking the boat of the symphonic establishment. We'd say more but you really just have to experience his stuff for yourself!

The Piano Guys - The best word for this group is EPIC. You've likely heard their music already but if not just do it now. Their sound is a bit closer to movie scores and symphonic crossover but your heart will be close to exploding when you listen to their passionate creations!

Toby Mac - This dude's been at it for years and he just keeps getting better. He's got a modern Christian message that will remind you of all that God offers.

Elliott Park - He has a quiet online presence but his album Fly Boy shouldn't be ignored. The grassroots country sound and family topics will have you laughing, crying, and begging for more.

Organizations

Life Church (locations around central Indiana: Fishers, Noblesville, Eagle Creek)
We realize that not everyone goes to church or wants to. However, here's our recommendation if you're in the area and searching. Note: we are NOT recommending switching churches - you need to have some really solid reasons to do that! However, if you need a community of genuine people that aren't perfect but still get together to worship and hear Biblical truth then check it out. We've been a part of this family for over a decade and it's the real deal. You'll typically catch us at the Fishers Sunday services. Check out the website for details.

The Safe Place (online; locations vary)
This ministry is run by our friend Nate Blouse who is based in Texas. Not in Texas? Not a problem! - He facilitates one-on-one prayer sessions by Skype, other virtual platforms, or in person that have AMAZING results. But it's not about him, it's about how he helps YOU hear directly from God during the prayer time. Both of us have invested in sessions with Nate and have heard him speak to groups as well. You might consider his services if you deal with any of the following: anger, depression, fear - especially if you're unsure why it's so strong, or any other negative emotions. God is not the author of confusion and desires spiritual health for us! We've all been building a mental house since we were children. Everything we experience - both great and small - set the foundations for what we believe. No one has a perfect past and we've all believed lies that skew our current perspective of ourselves, others, and God. From our own experiences, God has come in to help find the cracks in our foundations and fixed them right during the session (or sometimes even after!) - once we saw the world from a level perspective we were amazed at the peace and joy we experienced! If we had our way everyone would get a session with Nate!

Other organizations
We know many other people, businesses, and ministries. If you are looking for a resource, please ask us using the form below and we'll see if we can point you to someone. An example: home-based businesses! We're giant supporters of small business and believe that if you have a passion for it you can do it. Want music lessons? Odds are we know a friend that offers lessons in whatever you want to pursue! We're not a career finder service, but if you're seeking an opportunity and don't know where to start, just ask - we want you to be EMPOWERED to chase your dreams (but we aren't going to do it for you - you have to take action!)
